YouTube AdSense
The system YouTube uses to share advertising revenue with creators — you make videos, YouTube places ads on them, and you earn a percentage of what advertisers pay.
To earn from YouTube AdSense, creators must first join the YouTube Partner Program — which requires at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months. Once approved, YouTube places ads on your videos and pays you 55% of the revenue those ads generate. The other 45% goes to YouTube. Payments are made monthly once you hit a $100 threshold.
How much you earn per view depends on your CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and RPM (revenue per thousand views — what you actually take home after YouTube's cut). Niche matters enormously: finance, business, law, and real estate content earns 5-10x more than gaming or entertainment content, because advertisers in those industries pay far more per click. Ad revenue also spikes in Q4 (October–December) when brands blow their annual budgets before year end — and dips hard in January.
