Proof of Stake
A way blockchains validate transactions and add new blocks using the amount of coins people hold and are willing to lock up, instead of heavy computing power.
Proof of stake (PoS) reduces energy use dramatically compared to Bitcoin-style mining. Validators are chosen based on stake size and sometimes randomness. Slashing penalties discourage bad behavior. Many newer or upgraded chains use PoS or variations.
It makes participating easier for regular users but still has centralization concerns if large holders dominate.
It's like a voting system where the more shares (staked coins) you have, the more say you get — but you risk losing some if you act badly. Much more energy-efficient than proof of work.
Real world: Ethereum switched to proof of stake. People lock up ETH to help secure the network and earn rewards. It's why staking has become popular for passive income in crypto.
💡 Proof of stake makes crypto networks greener and more accessible — a big step for mainstream adoption.
