NFT Flipping
Buying NFTs at a lower price and reselling them at a higher price — profiting from timing the market, identifying undervalued projects early, or riding hype cycles.
NFT flipping strategies: mint flipping (buying at mint price the moment a new collection launches, flipping immediately if it sells out and floor price rises), floor sweeping (buying multiple NFTs at the cheapest available prices in a collection, then relisting at higher prices — increasing the floor for other holders), trait sniping (using NFT rarity tools like Rarity Sniper or Rarity Tools to identify underpriced NFTs with rare traits that should command premium prices), and project research (identifying promising early-stage projects before the broader community discovers them).
The risks are substantial and under-discussed. Gas fees on Ethereum can make small flips unprofitable. Rug pulls are common — developers mint an NFT collection, collect the ETH, and disappear with everyone's money. Liquidity risk: in a bear market, there may be no buyers at any price, leaving you holding an illiquid digital image. And the entire space is profoundly driven by social media sentiment — a single negative tweet from an influential figure can collapse a collection's floor price within hours. NFT flipping made many people wealthy in 2021 and lost many more people money in 2022.
