Crypto Arbitrage
Profiting from price differences for the same cryptocurrency across different exchanges — buying where it's cheaper and selling where it's more expensive simultaneously.
Types of crypto arbitrage: exchange arbitrage (same coin, different price on two exchanges), triangular arbitrage (exploiting price discrepancies between three different trading pairs on the same exchange — e.g., BTC/ETH, ETH/USDT, BTC/USDT), statistical arbitrage (using algorithms to find correlated assets that have temporarily diverged from their historical price relationship), and DeFi arbitrage (exploiting price differences between decentralised exchanges like Uniswap and centralised exchanges).
The reality of manual crypto arbitrage in 2024: most obvious price gaps are closed within seconds by automated trading bots run by professional firms with co-located servers. Retail traders attempting manual arbitrage are competing with algorithms operating in milliseconds. The viable opportunities for individuals tend to be in less efficient, lower-liquidity markets — smaller altcoins, newer exchanges, or complex multi-step DeFi strategies that require enough technical knowledge to execute that most competitors haven't gotten there yet. Arbitrage remains real but increasingly requires sophisticated tools and fast execution.
