Cash Flow
The movement of money into and out of a business over a period of time — the actual cash being earned and spent.
Cash flow is tracked on the cash flow statement, one of the three core financial statements. It's divided into three sections: operating (cash from the core business), investing (cash from buying/selling assets), and financing (cash from loans or share issuance).
Free cash flow — operating cash flow minus capital expenditure — is the number investors love most. It tells you how much actual cash is left over after running the business and maintaining assets. Companies with strong, growing free cash flow can do whatever they want: pay dividends, buy back shares, acquire competitors, or simply build a war chest.
